Jeremiah 29:11

 

 "For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future."

Jeremiah 29:11

Next to "John 3:16", this scripture verse is one of the most popular verses of scripture.

Now, let's get into this. Can you take this scripture, by itself-and claim it's "promise", no matter who you are, or how you are living, or what you engage in ?

I mean, who has not heard this scripture quoted or seen it somewhere, already? 

Churchgoer . . . . . .or not !

You see, "hardcore" Bible expositors will tell you that a lot of folks take this verse "out of context" and try and make it say something that it is 

NOT PROMISING. 

>>> You mean it just might be NOT OK to just "open the door" on ANY verse of scripture...out of context..and ....to apply it to

ANY 

circumstance people may run across . . .??

You mean folks turn scripture into posters, bumper stickers, magnets...

 . . . and anything they can think of ?

Should we be upset and "sound an alarm" that folks try and turn this ONE SPECIFIC scripture- Jeremiah 29:11- into a "catch all"...?

In a word...."YES"

Let me explain. 

Jesus said, as recorded in the Gospel of Matthew:

"But small is the gate and narrow is the road that leads to life, and only a few find it"-Matthew 7:14

Ouch !

You see, it is "human tendency" to try and take the "easy way out"...the "path of least resistance" . . .

BUT

GOD DON'T PLAY GAMES

I am sorry if you have been around all the "Jeremiah 29:11" bumper stickers, the coffee cups with the nice scriptures written on them, the folks who like to hear scripture "every once in a while.."

BUT DON'T DO WHAT THE SCRIPTURE SAYS !!

You see, scripture records that :

"Be not deceived; God is NOT MOCKED: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap"

Galatians 6:7.

"NOT MOCKED"

This means what it says. 

"Duh" :) 

The plans the Lord has for any of us require OBEDIENCE on our part , diligence, faith, faithfullness, etc.

Do not think you can continue living "however you want to.."-doing your own thing-NOT subjecting yourself to the Will of God..

and that the Lord is going to go back on His Word...

and bring you to a "place of prosperity...and keep you from harm", and bring you to a "future" that you're going to like, etc. !!

HE IS NOT MOCKED !!

You see, Paul (who wrote more than half of the New Testament )

(if someone wrote HALF of the New Covenant God established with man..then he "knows" Gods intentions...right ?) 

said the following words :

"For I did not shrink back from proclaiming to you the WHOLE counsel of God"- Acts 20:27

Paul also said the following words :

"But even if we or an angel out of heaven should preach a gospel to you contrary to what we proclaimed to you, let him be accursed"- Galatians 1:8

What did Paul say, in regards to living right, before the Lord, then ?

"Nevertheless, God’s solid foundation stands firm, sealed with this inscription: “The Lord knows those who are his,” and, “Everyone who confesses the name of the Lord must turn away from wickedness.”

2 Timothy 2:19

Let me put it this way . . .

Do you want to be where the rain is pouring down and the floodwaters are rising? 

or

Do you want to be where it may be a bit rocky..

. . .but you know you are safe and your future is secure?

YUP !

YOU NEED TO BE IN THE ARK !!

Bottom Line ?

It was just quoted above . . .

"Nevertheless the foundation of God standeth sure, having this seal, 

The Lord knoweth them that are his. 

And, Let every one that nameth the name of Christ depart from iniquity"-2 Timothy 2:19

There are some that belong to the Lord...and there are some that do not belong to the Lord.

Simply quoting a scripture, or two does NOT "put you in the Ark"

The promise of a hope and a future you simply can not claim, if you are not His

If you're not "one of His"...if you do not "belong to the Lord" you need to fix that, now
